Brewer Fans Enthusiastically Share Victory and Defeat with Lady Patriots
BIRMINGHAM (WHNT)– The Brewer Lady Patriot Basketball team is the defending state 5A champions. Their success over the past two years has been as satisfying and fun for the fans, as the players.
“This is a time, as you can see, all the fans that we have, it’s the time that Brewer pulls together as a community,” says Charlotte Allen, the wife of Brewer’s coach Ricky Allen. “They don’t say Brewer girls basketball. They talk about our girls. So it’s very very important.”
Allen says that every year, it’s clear that Brewer fans are willing to travel almost any distance to see this team play.
“They will let you know, the high school athletic association will let you know, that we bring the biggest crowds. And it’s just wonderful. A lot of them do not have kids at Brewer and never did. They just want come watch the girls play.”
“Brewer has that Patriot Pride, says Brewer fan Kerrick Whisenant. “I think that shows at every sporting event win or lose. And the support that our teams get.”
Sadly for the Patriots, their season came to an end Wednesday morning against Faith Academy. Brewer fell 59-43 to the Rams. The Patriots finish their season with a record of 32-2. Their only other loss came to 6A Bob Jones.
