HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – UPDATE: The Madison County coroner has determined the causes of death for Krista and Zachary Stone.
Krista Stone was killed by strangulation. Zachary died from strangulation and drowning.
Huntsville Police arrested a Marc Stone Sunday for the murder of Krista, his wife, and Zachary, his son.
The two were killed at 11313 Chicamauga Trail. Investigators say they found two victims in the home, 32-year-old Krista Stone and 7-year-old Zachary Stone.
Huntsville Police say 33-year-old Stephen Marc Stone turned himself in to police in Leeds, Alabama on Sunday. Leeds Police contacted Huntsville Police and urged them to do a welfare check on the family.
Stephen Stone is Krista’s husband. Stone is charged with two counts of capital murder.
Police say two other young children lived in the home, and are now in their grandparents’ care.
Crestwood Medical Center confirmed both Marc and Krista Stone were employes there. In a statement the medical center expressed their condolences writing:
“The Crestwood family is saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and fellow coworkers.”
A neighbor described Stone as a friendly, ostensibly normal and stable guy. All those WHNT News 19 spoke with in the neighborhood said they were too upset to talk about the family on camera because they were too upset. Neighbors say Zachary and the two other Stone girls had many playmates in the neighborhood.
Zachary Stone’s elementary school made counseling professionals available to students and teachers Monday morning.
“We have staff in place with our guidance counseling services,” says Huntsville City Schools Spokesman Keith Ward. “Certainly when it’s very young children,” Ward says, “that means you have to use extreme sensitivity but they have training and protocols on how to deal with those issues.”
