Brewer Student Arrested, Charged With Making Terrorist Threat
FLORETTE, Ala. (WHNT) — A Brewer High School student has been arrested and charged with making a terrorist threat after authorities say the student wrote a threatening note on a bathroom wall.
Brandon Cory Smithson, 18, was arrested Wednesday. According to a news release from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, a Morgan County Board of Education employee called the Sheriff’s Office after her son told her he was hesitant about going to school after reading something written on the wall in the men’s room.
Deputies and Brewer High School administrators checked the bathroom and found the writing, which consisted of several lines from a popular song and ended with “P.S. I’m bringing a gun tomorrow.”
Smithson was identified as a suspect. His charged with Making a Terrorist Threat, which is a Class C Felony. Smithson is in the Morgan County Jail. Bond has not been set.
Layne Dillard, Director of Programs for Morgan County Schools, released a statement on behalf of the school system.
“Because of the proactive measures taken by our school administrators, central office personnel and the Morgan County Sherriff’s Department the situation is under control, and school is running very smoothly today,” the statement read. “The safety of our students is always our first priority, and we take all threats seriously.”
