UAH Baseball Moves Up In Poll
Huntsville, Ala. - Moving one spot nationally, the University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team is now ranked No. 19 in Division II and No. 4 in the first NCBWA South Region Poll released Monday.
UAH (9-2) went 3-1 over the weekend, outscoring Kentucky State 42-6 in the four seven-inning games. The Chargers shutout the Thorobreds twice and scored 21 runs in game two on Sunday.
After being ranked No. 20 last season, UAH moved up one spot to No. 19 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Poll.
Delta State is currently No. 2 in the country, while West Florida is ranked No. 7, as the only other GSC teams in the top 30.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association also released its first South Region Poll of the year, with UAH coming in at No. 4 in the region. The Chargers ended last season at No. 5 in the region.
Delta State is ranked No. 1 in the region receiving all six first-place votes, while Tampa and West Florida are tied for No. 2.
The Chargers lead the GSC with a .365 team batting average with Vincent Kortbawi and Cody Burton leading the way offensively. Kortbawi leads the GSC in hits with 19, while Burton sits second with 16.
Junior pitcher Andrew Busby leads the GSC in strikeouts with 23, as he moved his record to 2-0 over the weekend.
The Chargers travel to Birmingham on Wednesday to take on Miles. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
