Shoals Area Crime Stoppers: Multi-State Shopping Spree With Stolen Credit Card

Police say two people went on a multi-state shopping spree, with someone else’s credit card.

According to investigators, the victim’s purse was stolen in Florence.

Detectives say the suspect may have been in town for a funeral, but first investigators say the man and a woman stopped by a flower shop in the Shoals and stole a woman’s wallet.

Before leaving the area, and heading toward Memphis, detectives say the couple racked up more than $1,000 worth of charges at Wal-Mart- buying gift cards.

In this week’s Shoals Area Most Wanted, the Russellville Police Department is looking for Malea Smelser.


Smelser is accused of six counts of attempt to commit a controlled substance crime, endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Next, Joel Shewbart is wanted for attempting to commit a controlled substance crime and possession of drug paraphernalia.


And two people are behind bars thanks to tips to the Shoals Area Crime Stoppers Tipline.  Wilburn Franklin Smith Jr. and Maire Mojeske were arrested for theft after stealing a high end purse from Bargain Hunt.
