HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Hundreds of students from Alabama and Georgia, and even one from California faced off in a math skills competition this week at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

The event was the annual Mathematics Tournament hosted by Grissom High School.  Forty-three schools were represented, sending 760 students in grades 7-12 to participate.  Students competed in five different categories: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Comprehensive, and involved both a written test and ciphering.

Many local students took home awards, including students from Whitesburg, Challenger, Hampton Cove, and Mountain Gap taking home honors in many of the categories.
