Taking Action: Doctor Closes His Doors, Leaving Some Patients in Limbo
ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – When Stephenie Roberts’ aging parents showed up for their scheduled appointments Thursday at Royse Family Medicine, the doors were locked and they learned their doctor had moved out of state.
Dr. John C. Royse moved to Texas but did post a notice in the local newspaper as mandated by the state Medical Licensure Commission a month before closing his doors. Some patients say they didn’t see the notice and were left without a doctor and their very important medicines.
WHNT News 19 was able to track down Dr. Royse, who says he will provide patients with their medical records if they would like them sent to another provider. Royse says he is trying to sell his former practice to another doctor and that deal is currently in the works.
If you were a patient of Royse Family Medicine and need your medical records send a request to this address:
727 West Market Street
Athens, AL 35611
Dr. Royse says to provide your full name, birthday, contact number, and the name and address of the doctor you wish to have them sent to.
