ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – We have sad news to bring you. Ryan Kitchens, a local boy battling medulloblastoma, died Tuesday.

Kitchens was 8 years old, and had fought the terminal brain cancer for more than a year.  His family stood by him through the end.

WHNT News 19 introduced you to Ryan just before Thanksgiving, and many people quickly reached out to help his family.

Ryan loved the Crimson Tide, and affectionately became known as ‘Lil Bama’.  Fans, and the team, poured out their hearts to send him autographed footballs, t-shirts, hats and even tickets to the Iron Bowl and the SEC Championship Game.

He and his mother, Jasmine Davis, collected dozens of Christmas gifts for foster children and donated them to Kids To Love.

The family has asked for Ryan’s funeral and burial service be private.

WHNT News 19 sends our condolences and prayers to Ryan’s family.  Ryan fought with such courage through so many struggles.  Ryan inspired us with his smile and gentle strength.
