ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – Utility crews have restored power to several thousand customers in Athens.

A substation went down around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, causing 5,467 customers to lose power until 7:46 a.m.

Athens Utilities said a jumper burned, causing the Athens District Substation to go down as well as the Sixth Street and Strange Street substations.

The area without power ran from Lindsay Lane down U.S. 72 to the Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority and included the southern portion of the city.
