SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WHNT) – An 18-year-old woman died in a wreck Tuesday morning in Scottsboro.

It happened around 10 a.m. at the intersection of Highways 79 and 279.  Scottsboro Police say Kelly Jo Rich was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala that collided with an 18-wheeler.

Rich died at the scene.  She lives near Skyline.

A passenger in her car, 21-year-old Christopher King of Scottsboro, was flown to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.  We understand his injuries are serious.

Police say Rich’s vehicle was stopped at the stop sign at Roy Owens Boulevard and Highway 79, and she pulled out in front of the semi truck.

Charles Cannon, 48, of Chattanooga was driving the flatbed.  He was not seriously hurt.  Police say Cannon tried to stop, but was unable to.

Police say this is the first traffic fatality in Scottsboro since 2011.
