Pay It Forward, Allison Tofflemire
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – This week’s Pay It Forward introduces us to a woman who has dedicated herself to helping those with special needs.
Allison Tofflemire started a sign language class for a few special needs kids at Southside Baptist Church in Huntsville. This soon grew into classes with as many as thirty people every Sunday night. Allison also started a free Valentine’s party and summer picnic for the special needs kids and adults which has grown to over 200 people attending.
Bryan Martin is an associate pastor with Southside Baptist. He nominated Allison for the Pay It Forward
“As a Christian minister it’s exciting to see because God is obviously blessing her through what she’s doing and I can’t tell you how many families he’s blessed through her. In many ways, our special needs adults have been in some way orphaned by our society and unfortunately, sometimes even our churches.”
Bryan says Allison is changing that. “In my mind, it looks like Jesus when you see Allison working with these people and I am blessed to have had the opportunity to see it myself.”
Allison says this all started because she wanted to teach some kids sign language, but the annual Valentine’s party changed that. “When two of our students here invited their friends and we went from 26 people one year to 92 people the next year and it was obvious God wanted this to be a ministry to people who had special needs.”
Allison’s ministry has now grown to over 200 people. “Everyone has a purpose and sometimes we forget that, but when you see these kids and you see what they do, you see how they bless people.” “They’ve got a wonderful purpose and that’s all we do, just help them use it.”
If you want to come to the free Valentine’s party, please go to the Southside Baptist Church website before Friday and let them know you are coming.
