Jasmine Sanders And Company Beat UAPB 59-48

Normal, Ala. - On Monday night the Lady Bulldogs took on the Lady Lions of University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Elmore Gymnasium.

The game was evenly matched for the first five minutes of play. A&M and UAPB traded buckets as neither team separated themselves offensively.

As play continued, the Maroon & White slowly began to increase their efficiency and gain a lead over their opponent. By halftime, the Lady Bulldogs built an 11-point lead over the visiting Lions (29-18).

The lead was obtained by A&M outperforming UAPB in bench points (11-2), points in the paint (12-6) and good defensive play that forced 11 turnovers and held Pine Bluff to a field goal percentage of just 26%.

Leading the charge in the first 20 minutes was Jasmine Sanders with a game high 10 points.

It was all AAMU in the second half, as the Lady Bulldogs came out of the break fired up and ready to play. In the first 10:30 of the second half, the team extended their lead to 17 points (44-27). UAPB attempted to use their press to influence the game and shit the momentum in their favor; however, they were unsuccessful despite a valiant effort.

The Maroon and White went on to win the game by the same 11-point lead with which they ended the first half after building a game high 20-point lead at the 6:03 mark.

For the second consecutive game, Jasmine Sanders led the team tallying her fourth double double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Shundray Davis and Brittney Strickland both finished with 10 points on the night.

UAPB had two players score double digits as Christina Lasane finished with 19 and Chigozianyi Okwumbua finished 14.

The much needed victory gives the Warmley led squad the season sweep of the Lady Lions.  The last time her group loss to UAPB was January 9, 2010 with a 75-59 score.

Alabama A&M will be back in action this Saturday, February 9th as they travel to Montgomery, AL to face in-state rival, the Hornets of Alabama State.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
