(WHNT) — A quick moving system has brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to the Tennessee Valley this morning.
Only light accumulations have been reported, but it is has been enough for some slick travel this morning. Icy bridges and overpasses have been reported in Northwest Alabama, particularly in Lauderdale and Colbert counties where freezing rain has been reported. Use extreme caution if you have to travel this morning, because even if you don’t have freezing rain, a light dusting of snow or sleet on the roads can create travel problems. As temperatures warm above freezing, the wintry precipitation will transition into a cold rain. The bulk of the precipitation will be off to the east of the Tennessee Valley by noon.
The highest accumulations will be north of the Tennessee River, in extreme North Alabama and southern middle Tennessee, where several photos have come in of a light dusting of snow or sleet. Some accumulations have been up to one inch in Tennessee. You can send your photos into firstname.lastname@example.org.
