HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Dr. Julian Davidson has passed away. Davidson, an aerospace executive and founder of Davidson Technologies, died Thursday night.
The Davidson Center for Space Exploration at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center is named for Dr. Davidson and his wife, Dorothy. A new addition at the Huntsville Museum of Art is also named for the Davidson family.
Dr. Davidson founded Davidson Technologies in 1996. He was an active member of the community.
“Huntsville has lost a great man in Julian Davidson,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle. “He was one of the best and brightest in our city, not only in his career as a renowned expert in missile defense, but also as a civic philanthropist and devoted family man. The Davidson Center for the Arts and the Davidson Center for Space Exploration are visible symbols of his generosity, but there are many non-profit causes in Huntsville that Julian and his wife, Dorothy, quietly supported. Our hearts and prayers are with Dorothy and the Davidson family,” Battle said.

Julian Davidson founded Davidson Technologies dedicating the company to providing research and development support to the government and commercial sectors. Dr. Julian Davidson has distinguished himself as one of the renowned experts in missile defense research with a career that has spanned over forty years. Dr. Davidson’s career with the U.S. Government culminated with his position as the Deputy Program Manager of BMD where he managed several thousand personnel and controlled programs with funding levels of several billions of dollars. He was the first Director of the Advanced Ballistic Missile Defense Agency responsible for all U.S. BMD advanced technology development. While director, Dr. Davidson pioneered the use of System Engineering for Ballistic Missile Defense. After leaving government service, Dr. Davidson held management positions with SAIC as Vice President for Strategic Planning; with Systems Development Corporation as Vice President and General Manager of Eastern Operations; and, with the management consulting firm Booz-Allen and Hamilton as a Senior Vice President. Dr. Davidson founded Davidson Technologies in 1996. He serves as Chairman of the Board for the company. Dr. Davidson has served as member and chairman of numerous committees and panels dealing with missiles including BMD and military and space systems. He is a former chairman of the Air Force Studies Board of the National Research Council and a former Vice Chairman of the Technology Assessment Committee of the U.S. Space Command for the National Research Council. Dr. Davidson twice received the Army Exceptional Civilian Service Award and he has received the Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the Medaris Award. He is a member of the U.S. Army Strategic Defense Employee Hall of Fame.
