McWhinney Named Player Of The Week

Huntsville, Ala. – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced goaltender Dan McWhinney of the Huntsville Havoc is the Easton Player of the Week for January 21-27. 

McWhinney went 2-0-0, posting a 0.54 goals against average and a .986 save percentage, stopping 73 of 74 shots last week.

In a 7-3 win over the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday, the native of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario stopped all 30 shots he faced before being ejected for his participation in a third-period altercation. McWhinney had another strong outing on Saturday, only giving up a power play goal and stopping 43 of 44 shots in Huntsville’s 5-1 win over Knoxville.

McWhinney, who was named Easton Player of the Week for December 24-30, currently ranks first in the SPHL in minutes played and saves and is tied for second with two shutouts, while his 13 wins are third-most. McWhinney currently ranks third on the all-time Havoc list for wins. He led Huntsville to the 2009-10 SPHL President’s Cup Championship, going 7-1 with a 1.96 goals against average and a .922 save percentage and took home playoff MVP honors.
