Sheffield Man On Trial For Father’s Murder

COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The trial of a Sheffield man accused of murdering his father began Monday morning.

Brian Lansing Martin, 32, is on trial for the May 2011 shooting death of Donice Scott.

A Colbert County grand jury indicted Martin over a year later.  Investigators say Martin shot and killed Scott during an alleged argument between the father and son.

Attorneys for Martin say the shooting was in self-defense.  They say they plan to prove that in court.

Jury selection began Monday morning.  Opening statements should take place Tuesday.
