Man Shot at During Craigslist Deal
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Police responded to a robbery around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Police say the victim, Jacob Smith, posted a 52-inch television for sale on craigslist. He received an inquiry about the TV and made plans to meet up with the man interested in buying the set on Medaris Road. Smith told police when he arrived in the area, the man, who called himself ‘Chris’ started changing locations on where to meet.
‘Chris’ finally met him on Padgett Drive in Huntsville. The victim, Smith, said the man started asking questions about the TV and asked him to check something on the back of the television.
That’s when Smith says he saw the offender reach for a handgun and started firing shots at the victim. The victim fled to the front of his truck and started firing shots from his own handgun. Huntsville Police say Smith has a valid pistol permit.
The victim told police he wasn’t sure if he actually hit the man, but Huntsville Hospital confirmed to police that a male was being treated at their facility for a gunshot wound to the chest and was undergoing surgery. The man’s name has not been released yet.
The investigation is ongoing.
