HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The HudsonAlpha Institute For Biotechnology is accepting applications from teachers and students for upcoming education programs.
Deadlines are approaching for the GREAT and GTAC programs for teachers, as well as the BioTrain summer internship program for students.
GREAT (Genetic Resources To Empower Alabama Teachers)
This event is a full-day workshop held on the HudsonAlpha campus in Huntsville. It is one portion of the three-day Mission: iSTEM Conference hosted at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center from February 14-16, 2013. The GREAT workshop is February 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teachers will learn about applications based on new discoveries relating to health, agriculture and the environment. The deadline to register is Feb. 1. To register, click here.
Note: All participants must also register for the Mission: iSTEM Conference. To do so, click here.
GTAC (Genetic Technologies for Alabama Classrooms)
This is a two-week teacher academy held during the summer. GTAC is designed to help Alabama educators teach genetics by updating content knowledge, identifying common student misconceptions and gaining familiarity with hands-on genetic activities and classroom tools. Educators chosen to attend the academy will receive room, board and a stipend as well as a collection of materials and resources related to genetics and biotechnology. This is an excellent opportunity for a life science teacher that seeks to
update an understanding of genetic concepts and their application to healthcare, agriculture and energy.
The upcoming GTAC session will be held June 16 – 28, 2013. Applications must be submitted online by January 31 at 5:00 p.m. Apply here.
BioTrain: Summer internship program for students
HudsonAlpha invites students to apply for the BioTrain program. The program is open to rising high school juniors and seniors, through college graduate students. Students have the opportunity to train in a variety of fields related to biotechnology, ranging from marketing and business strategy to in-depth laboratory research. The deadline to register is February 15, 2013. All applications must be submitted online. To apply, click here.
