Chargers Skate Past Oklahoma

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Sebastian Geoffrion scored two goals and also added an assist, as the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team defeated the Oklahoma club team 3-1 in exhibition play Friday night at the Huntsville Municipal IcePlex.
Geoffrion scored the opening goal of the game at 3:24 in the first period, giving UAH a 1-0 lead early in the game. Craig Pierce and Doug Reid recorded assists on the goal.
Oklahoma would have an answer six minutes later, when Chad Liley scored the lone goal of the game at 9:34 for the Sooners.
Frank Misuraca put the Chargers back on top for good at 12:01 in the first period, when Steven Koshey and Sebastian Geoffrion tallied the assists.
After a scoreless second period, Geoffrion would give the Chargers some breathing room at 1:53 in the third period. Mat Hagen picked up the assist on the goal and that 3-1 score would hold until the final horn.
Gregg Gruehl picked up the win in goal, recording 24 saves on the night.
UAH held the shots on goal advantage at 33-25. UAH outshot Oklahoma in both the first and third periods, while the Sooners held the upper hand in the second period.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon at the Von Braun Center for a 3 p.m. puck drop.
