FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – The husband of a woman charged in a child pornography investigation has now been arrested, too.

Lauderdale County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Matthew Ayers, 41, on Thursday afternoon.

His wife, Patricia Allana Edmond Ayers, was arrested last week on for alleged production of child porn when she admitted to taking five photos of a naked child.

Matthew Ayers denied involvement, and his wife backed up his story.  However, investigators say they found more images on Ayers’ computer confiscated from the scene that links him to the case.

Matthew Ayers is charged with:

  • Rape
  • Sodomy
  • Sexual abuse
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Production of child pornography
  • Permitting a child to engage in obscene matter

He is being held on $1 million bond.

Lauderdale County investigators tell WHNT News 19’s Melissa Payne that Patricia Ayers is now additionally charged with rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and permitting a child to engage in obscene matter.

Investigators confirm both Patricia and Matthew face the same list of charges.

Patricia Ayers says she took the pictures to compare the photos of the naked child to images taken last year, in order to document a rash on the child’s arms and back.

“These photos, the child was posed in the photos and has nothing to do with what you would think of someone taking a photo for medical reasons,” said Lauderdale County Investigator Richard Richey.

The investigation started when a Madison County man turned the images over to police.  Authorities say the man was browsing through other pictures taken by Ayers, when the nude photos popped up.

“If it hadn’t been for him calling and making authorities aware of that, we would have never known this and it could have went on, other things could have happened to this child,” said Richey.  “We commend him for doing the right thing.”

Patricia Ayers could also face more charges.  Investigators plan to talk with the District Attorney on Friday.
