Police Continue To Investigate Lt. Colonel’s Shooting Death In Owens Cross Roads
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville Police continue to investigate the shooting death of a Lieutenant Colonel in Owens Cross Roads late Friday night.
Police are keeping tight-lipped about the case.
The Madison County Coroner says Alonzo McGhee died of multiple gunshot wounds. McGhee, 44, was shot to death in the 7000 block of Pale Dawn Place around 10:30 p.m.
Coroner Craig Whisenant said he was unable to determine how many times McGhee had been shot. He did say an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
WHNT News 19 has learned McGhee finalized a divorce with his wife, Fillis McGhee, on December 28, 2012. Alonzo McGhee had sole custody of the couple’s three children following the divorce.
Fillis McGhee is the former principal of Hampton Cove Elementary School. Huntsville City Schools fired McGhee’s ex-wife in 2011 for fraud and nepotism.
We understand the children are now in Fills McGhee’s care.
Friends of the McGhees say Alonzo McGhee was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army. The friends say Lt.Col. McGhee planned to retire later this year.
