Swimmers Take ‘Polar Bear Plunge’ In Decatur

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – New Year’s Day is when people come out to join the ranks of the local Polar Bear Club.

Despite the rain, it didn’t dampen spirits at the Decatur Boat Harbor.  More than 100 people stripped down to their bathing suits, wet suits, and just whatever else and jumped into the frigid waters of the Tennessee River.

For some, it was the first time to do this.  For others, it was their 8th, 9th and even 11th time.  Many say they’ll be back next year.
