BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) — Boaz Police seized 75 pounds of marijuana and $2,400 cash while investigating a call about suspicious activity Tuesday evening.

Officers arrested a 19-year-old Boaz woman and two men from Texas in their 20s.

  • Boaz Police Chief Terry Davis said this is the largest amount of marijuana seized in Boaz in his 20 years with the department.

  • Officers went to the house on Idlewild Street to investigate a possible burglary.

  • Police said they could smell the marijuana from outside the house and the aroma was overwhelming when a person inside opened the front door.

  • Investigators said the drug traffickers formed bricks of marijuana to fit in a spare tire.

  • Police said the 75 pounds are worth between $75,000 and $150,000, and could be sold for twice that amountwhen split into ounces and sold individually.

  • Police seized $2400 cash, including thirteen $100 bills, fifty-four $20, two $5, four $2, and two $1. No $10 bills.

  • The money will go into a police seizure account.

  • The three people arrested are charged with drug trafficking.
