HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - This week's Pay It Forward is meant to really tug at your heart strings. We are featuring Huntsville Animal Services' Adoption Center.
According to Karen Buchan, the Animal Care Supervisor, they are in dire need of supplies for the adoption wing.
"We always need towels and blankets throughout the entire year, we go through them like hot cakes," said Buchan. "We need leashes, we need food like Purina, Pedigree, Hill Science in the small or medium-size bags."
Because of a shortage of funds, the Adoption Center relies heavily on donations from the public. This year, they are having a special event for the animals: the first annual Santa Paws Pet Toy Project.
This event ties in with another special program the Adoption Center has to promote pet adoption, and Buchan says that program really needs bags of food.
"We have a foster care program and when we have puppies or kittens that need just a little extra care, they go to a foster care home and during that time we try to provide them with food that's been donated," said Buchan. "Otherwise, it's coming out of their pockets."
But she says that's not all they need.
"Toys, leashes, litter boxes, pet carriers, kennels for dogs, anything that can be used for dogs and cats to help them enhance their stay while they are here or with our foster care program," said Buchan.

If you can't adopt, take some pet toys, towels, blankets, small to medium bags of food or a cash donation by the center. You'll be glad you did.
