Update: Colbert County House Fire Claims One Life
COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Colbert County Coroner has confirmed one person has passed away due to a house fire Sunday afternoon in the Barton Community.
Fire fighters responded to the house along Highway 72 just before 3:00 p.m.
Crews say people were inside the home when the fire sparked.
At least six fire departments responded to the scene, along with the state fire marshal.
According to the coroner, a captain with the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department was injured while fighting the fire. He was taken to Helen Keller Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
