Sending a letter to Santa is, for many families, a holiday tradition. Wish lists though, are no longer just for kids and the web is making it easier than ever for grown-ups to share gift ideas.
While some people still love busting out a paper and pencil with the little ones to pen a wish list, others are taking advantage of convenience and the ability to “gift” across multiple retailers online.
Suzanne Kantra, Techlicious Editor-in-Chief, explains the transformation of the gift list like this, “People used to use paper and pencil and put it on the refrigerator. I remember doing that when I was growing up. [Now] different types of websites… have different kinds of digital wish lists.”
Retailers like Amazon as well as websites WishPot and TallWish let users share lists they create with family and friends easily – no more emailing someone to find out what grandma might want or need. You can also now share digital lists through apps and social networking sites.
Pinterest for example, is driving a whole new kind of image-based wish list sharing.
“I share it with everybody,” Kantra admits, “I make my list on Pinterest, all the pictures are there. I have one for my kids, I have one for my husband… It works really well… You can follow other people’s gift ideas as well.”
Perhaps sensing a trend there, Pinterest just last month opened up to businesses – so retailers can how highlight their own wares on the image-based “pinboard” website throughout the holiday season.
