PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Bank officials and sheriff investigators in Morgan County are teaming up following a string of bank robberies in the area.
Morgan County Sheriff investigators 'robbed' a local bank recently, going to great lengths to make the robbery feel as real as possible for employees who were not tipped off beforehand to the ploy.
"We were contacted by bank managers and asked if we could help them with training," Sheriff Ana Franklin told WHNT News 19. "Our investigators cased the place, and around closing time, went inside to rob the bank."
The unconventional training is being called a success by officials.
"We were able to look at our community through the eyes of a bank robber and see where there is weakness in our security and procedures," Franklin added.
The proactive policing measures come at a time six banks in communities in the region were hit by what authorities believe is a serial bank robber.
A surveillance picture shows the suspect is a black male wearing glasses. Police say he had a light-colored button-down shirt, blue jeans, and a ball cap which had “Navy Retired” on the front. He had thin hair and a goatee, and was approximately 5’9″ to 6’0″ tall and weighed between 180 and 200 pounds. Police say the man drove away in a dark blue four-door Kia with a Madison County license plate.
