NORMAL, Ala. (WHNT) - Alabama A&M University has been chosen as one of the locations to host a competition for the 2013 Drum Corps International Season.
The competition will be at Louis Crews Stadium on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
According to Dana Gillis, director of compliance for athletics at AAMU, the event marks “the first time that DCI has partnered with a historically black college or university to host one of its premier events.”
A first-year show typically attracts around 3,000 fans, notes Gillis, but in subsequent years the fan base for an established event could expand to 10,000 or more.
DCI's CEO, Dan Acheson, will be visiting next week to learn more about Louis Crews Stadium and the Huntsville area. The school expects to be able to make an announcement about ticket sales after Acheson's visit.
