Auburn, Ala. (WHNT) - Auburn football suffered the biggest drop off in college football history after winning a National Championship just two years ago.  They finished the 2012 campaign with the worst record in 60 years including zero SEC victories.

There are three reasons why it seemed like the season was a disaster.

Player Development: in the four recruiting classes Gene Chizik had, several recruiting Web sites ranked them in the Top 20 and often times in the Top 10.  Still, a 3-9 record happened.

Fundamentals: Auburn ranked near the bottom in turnover margin and last in interceptions, third-down conversions and first downs.

NCAA Investigation: because of several off-the-field incidents involving players and a reported NCAA investigation, all of these things may have served as distractions.
