AUBURN, Ala. (WHNT) – Members of the Trees Task Force in Auburn examined the oak trees on Toomer’s Corner to assess the damage caused by a fire early Sunday morning.

In a statement released by Auburn University on The Oaks at Toomer’s Corner website page says the experts found “significant damage” to both oaks and several other plants near the plaza.

The task force plans to re-examine the trees next week, and will post another update at that time.

The statement also says the Auburn Police Division is investigating the fire at this time.
