Deputies Bringing Fred’s Shooting Suspect Back To DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Authorities in DeKalb County are picking up the suspect in a recent Rainsville shooting and bringing him back to face charges.

Deputies are driving to Cedartown, Georgia this afternoon to pick up Kelly Jack Mayo, who is accused of shooting two employees at Fred’s store on August 24.  He was indicted in late October.

Mayo, of Fort Payne, is also charged in a robbery at Fred’s in Cedartown.  He faces at least 10 felony charges in that case.

In the Rainsville shooting, Mayo faces multiple charges as well:

  • Two counts of attempted murder
  • Two counts of shooting into an occupied business
  • One count of robbery


Mayo has been held in the Polk County, Georgia Jail, but is now being released to stand trial in Fort Payne.  Mayo was previously employed by at least one Fred’s store in Georgia.
