Player Profile: Michael Wickliffe
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Johnson defense ranks best among all of their counterparts in class 4A. The Jaguars have only allowed 75 points all year for an average of 6.8 per game. Clearly everyone is performing well with stats like that, but the most dominating player could be nose tackle Michael Wickliffe.
The sophomore recorded three sacks and even more hurries last Friday in Johnson’s 41-0 victory over Haleyville.
Head Coach Harold Wells is impressed with his man in the middle.
“He did an outstanding job of getting penetration, finding the football and making big plays,” Wells said.
Making those plays is something Wickliffe thinks about as he lines up over the ball on defense. “Sack the quarterback, that’s all that goes through my head. Just sack the quarterback,” Wickliffe says. “Get in the backfield and just hit him as hard as possible.”
Michael Wickliffe is our focus for this week’s player profile.
