Drive-Thru Recycling in Albertville Thursday
ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Thursday is America Recycles Day.
Several organizations in Marshall County are getting together with Keep Albertville Beautiful to maximize donations, and they will accept some items you probably would not think about recycling.
You also get to stay in your car to do it if you come between noon and 6 p.m.
Workers at the Albertville Recycling Center often help people unload their cars, but they will have extra volunteers in the parking lot across the street Thursday to unload items.
“We wanted to do a drive thru so that we could make it convenient for people, because the easier things are for people to do, we lean more toward doing them,” recycling center director Jeannie Courington said.
“We’re trying to make it user friendly and easy for everybody to make the world better.”
Marshall County Christian Services will accept used clothing and shoes, and Courington said they particularly want warmer clothing as we enter the winter months.
The Lions Club wants used eyeglasses, and the Rotary Club is collecting books to send to Ghana as part of a program to help children in Africa learn to read.
“There’s schools over there that are being put together and this is a chance for children who have very few and precious books to them, to be able to experience what we experience,” Courington said.
She said they hope people will donate educational materials, and the children particularly enjoy “National Geographic” magazines.
