Limestone County School Board To Principal: You’re Fired

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – The Limestone County School Board voted Thursday night to terminate the contract of Dr. Casey Lewis, Principal at Johnson Elementary School. The board says Lewis violated several rules when he allegedly contracted to purchase and have a new electronic sign installed at the school.

Among the alleged infractions, Dr. Lewis is accused of violating the state’s bid law by not putting the $19,000 project out for bids.

Another issue with school board members is Lewis supposedly made arrangements for the debt to be paid in three installments, which according to school board members, amounted to Dr. Lewis making a loan on the behalf of the board.

The meeting room was filled to capacity Thursday night, mostly by co-workers, teachers, family and friends of Dr. Lewis, who often expressed their displeasure with the board’s actions.

Lewis’ attorney, Jake Watson, was forced to leave and escorted from the meeting by a sheriff’s deputy after repeatedly asking for clarification of comments from board members.

After a lengthy discussion, the board to terminate Lewis’s contact immediately. No word on when a new principal will be named for the school.
