Madison Co. Probate Judge Up by 120 Votes; Recount Likely
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Democrat Tommy Ragland was elected to a third term as Madison County Probate Judge early Wednesday morning, by just 120 votes.
According to our news partner, The Huntsville Times, Ragland leads Republican challenger Patty Demos 74,420 to 74,300. Only provisional ballots are left to be counted.
Ragland was trailing until several late-reporting boxes from heavily Democratic north Huntsville propelled him to victory, The Times reports.
Demos told The Times the margin of victory is so slim that it should trigger an automatic recount. It is not clear when that will occur.
“We’ll worry about that in the morning,” said Demos. “Everybody just wants to go home and get some rest now.”
