Group of Wounded Warriors Visits Huntsville for ‘Heroes Week’
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Dozens of wounded servicemen and women along with their spouses arrived in Huntsville on Wednesday.
The veterans arrived for a week of rest and relaxation. Many of the service members have never seen a community reception, but they certainly got a warm welcome from family, friends and strangers.
Wednesday afternoon, several groups gathered to welcome wounded warriors, marines, sailors, airmen and their spouses at Huntsville International Airport. Then, they escorted them to the Westin Hotel.
The groups that helped with the huge welcome and motorcade included the Semper Fi Riders, the Patriot Guard Riders, the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 28-2, Rocket HD HOGs, the American Legion Riders, Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club and many other individual motorcycle riders from across the Tennessee Valley.
This reception is the kickoff of a week-long celebration where service members will be honored at several special events.
Police and Patriot Guard riders formed a motorcade to escort guests to The Weston Hotel and Bridge Street for yet another cheering crowd.
One of the fun activities planned for service members this week is a cruise that will include fishing and dinner on Lake Guntersville.
