European Election Observers in Alabama Today
The Tuscaloosa News reports that two European election observers will be in Alabama today to monitor the election. The paper reports that the observers will be from the Office of Security and Co-operation in Europe/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.
According to the story, the observers, who will be at election sites across America, were invited here by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The United States is a member of the organization sending the observers and the U.S. often sends observers to other countries.
According to the paper’s report, Jim Wilson, the Montgomery County board of registrars chairman, met with the two observers and explained to them Alabama’s election laws. He told them they could be at the Montgomery County Courthouse when voting results are counted.
Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard issued a statement earlier this week calling for legislation that would only allow U.S. citizens to monitor elections in Alabama.
