Local Christians Pray Over Presidential Election

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.(WHNT)-Tuesday’s presidential election is being pegged by many as the most important one in U.S. history, and some are turning to the power of prayer to help them decide who should be America’s next leader.

More than 500 area Christians attended a non-partisan election prayer service Sunday at Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville. Attendees called on God to give guidance for how to vote Tuesday, while also asking forgiveness for national sins ranging from abortion to gay marriage and pornography.

Speakers said instead of voting on traditional party lines, Christians need to base their vote on biblical guidelines they¬†believe speaks to many of today’s current issues. The speakers did not mention either of the two presidential candidates or their parties.

“God has not forsaken us, we have forsaken God, and we need to turn back to him,” said Mayfair Senior Pastor Dr. Gary Bradley. “It’s never too late to come back to God.”

Much of the service’s focus was geared towards praying for clarity and¬†wisdom for voters who will decide what could be one of the closest elections in recent memory.

“We really need to look deep into our hearts and decide where we want our country to go,” said service attendee Gerald Miller.

“We believe the power of prayer is what’s going to make the difference in our country,” said prayer service organizer Lee Milam. “When we return to Him and seek Him again, put Him first in our country like it used to be, we believe God will bless America again.”

Sunday’s special prayer service also included readings from a Bible that dates back to 1776, the year of America’s founding as a nation.
