School Bus Overturns In Franklin County, All Students Will Be Okay
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A school bus carrying 29 students from Vina High School overturned Thursday afternoon in the Hodges community.
Alabama State Troopers say a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado slammed into the back of the bus at the intersection of Overton Farm Road and Highway 172. The scene was about halfway between Phil Campbell and the Mississippi state line.
Channing Haithcock, 20, of Vina was driving the truck. He was flown to Tupelo Regional Medical Center in Mississippi.
Fourteen students on the bus were hurt, but troopers say none had life-threatening injuries. They were taken to area hospitals. Troopers say most injuries involve broken bones, cuts and scrapes.
The bus driver, Rebecca Gober, 58, of Vina, was not hurt.
Troopers say Gober helped students climb out the top of the bus while residents called 911. Other residents said they went in the road and slowed down traffic from approaching the scene.
The bus was turned over onto its wheels. It had to be towed away because it had a flat tire and damaged body.
Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash.
