RAINSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Law enforcement officers are still looking for the gunman in the shooting at Fred’s Super Dollar Store in Rainsville. Today, they just got an added boost that could bring in an important tip.
Governor Robert Bentley has authorized a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
There is already a $5,000 reward in the case, offered by an anonymous donor.
Josh Nance and Matthew Whitt, employees of Fred’s, were finishing up for the night after closing time on August 24. A man fired shots through the locked front door.
Bullets hit both men in the back, and left them with no feeling in their legs. Nance and Whitt have been going through rehabilitation.
Local law enforcement agencies, including the Rainsville Police and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, have already put in hundreds of man hours to try to solve the case.
“The investigation has been very intense,” said District Attorney Mike O’Dell. “From the beginning law enforcement officers have made the arrest of this cowardly felon their top priority. They have investigated leads throughout north Alabama and into Georgia.”
“Someone has the information that detectives need in order to solve this case. My hope is that by offering this reward, whoever has that information will be encouraged to share what they know,” said Governor Bentley. “Detectives are actively working to secure justice for the victims and peace of mind for the community. This is no time to stay silent. If you know who did this, we urge you to immediately contact investigators.”
If you have any information about the case, please call Rainsville Police at (256) 638-2157 or the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at (256) 845-3801.
