Congressional Committee Wary Of Chinese Telecom Firms
China’s biggest technology companies are eager to expand in the United States but a new report claims the telecom equipment makers Huawei Technologies Inc. and ZTE Corp. are potential security threats that Americans should avoid doing business with.
The report Monday by the House Intelligence Committee indicated lawmakers were not convinced by evidence provided about operations in America. Committee members also remained concerned with alleged ties between the companies and the Chinese government.
In a special segment recently for 60 Minutes, Jim Lewis, senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told CBS News’ Steve Kroft it’s hard to trust a country known for espionage and a company accused of stealing technology. Click here to watch the video.
In this separate video, Congressman Mike Rogers told Kroft why many in Congress are concerned telecom giant Huawei may have ties to Chinese government.
