HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Rep. Paul Ryan, the Republican nominee for vice president, is visiting Huntsville today. We understand his fundraising event brought in more than $1 million, according to our news partners The Huntsville Times.
Ryan landed at Huntsville International Airport shortly after 10 a.m. His wife and children are with him. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley also met him at the airport.
All were escorted in a motorcade to the Von Braun Center, where Ryan attended a campaign event and fundraiser. The event included a photo opportunity, followed by a general reception, and then a roundtable.
WHNT News 19 was not allowed inside the event, however supporters who attended say they were excited to hear Ryan’s vision for America and the Rocket City.
“I think the Romney-Ryan ticket will be very pro-defense, very pro-NASA,” said State Representative Phil Williams. “I was excited to hear him say today that they want to be involved in education issues as well, and see America move forward state by state with education.”
A handful of protesters gathered outside the VBC during the event. They carried signs with slogans such as “Keep your rosaries off my ovaries,” and took issue with Romney-Ryan’s anti-abortion positions and their promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Here’s a look at the cost associated with each of the events during Ryan’s visit:
- Photo Opportunity: $5,000
- General Reception: $1,000
- Roundtable: $25,000 or raise $50,000
