DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – Authorities have tracked down an escaped inmate from Morgan County. Randall Roy Jones, 51, was arrested in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Jones, of Eva, has been an inmate in the Morgan County Jail since June of 2011 for theft and burglary charges. He had recently been granted trustee status.
He escaped from the Morgan County Jail on Sunday morning.
Investigators say Jones was assigned to duty with the Morgan County Area Transportation System last week, and he had access to civilian clothing.
Decatur Police say that same day, there was a report of a burglary and theft that day at MCATS. Someone had stolen a gold Ford Escape.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage, which showed Jones leaving the Morgan County Jail on a bicycle, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. They determined Jones had placed the clothing in an area where he could retrieve it and then escape.
Investigators say Jones rode the bike to MCATS and then stole the vehicle.
They put out a multi-state call for law enforcement to be on the lookout for Jones, and police in Biloxi, Mississippi caught him later in the day Sunday during a traffic stop.
Jones will face several charges in Morgan County, including escape, theft of property and burglary.
