Update: Huntsville Officer Home, Improving After Bad Wreck
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Huntsville police officer is now at home resting after a serious wreck Thursday night on South Memorial Parkway.
Police say Officer Charles Draper was discharged from Huntsville Hospital on Friday afternoon. He was in serious condition Thursday night after a woman slammed in to his police cruiser at the intersection of Lily Flagg Road and Memorial Parkway.
Police say Officer Draper was headed north on the Parkway to a call about a suicide attempt when the wreck happened. Police say the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu tried to turn left on Lily Flagg Road and hit the officer’s car head-on in that intersection.
The driver of the Malibu, Tonya Brooks, 43, was also taken to Huntsville Hospital. She was released overnight and then arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree and DUI (alcohol). The incident is still under investigation.
