Huntsville, Ala. – The Huntsville Havoc and the Iowa State Cyclones teamed up this weekend to host a free agent camp and two of those participants have been invited to the Havoc training camp in October. Forward Mark Henke and defenseman Chase Wharton will both be in training camp with the Havoc on October 15.

Henke (5-7, 165) spent the last two seasons playing college hockey at Concordia College. He scored four goals and recorded nine assists in 48 games.

“Mark was a consistent performer throughout the weekend and we are pleased to invite him to our main training camp,” Havoc head coach Glenn Detulleo said. ”He played displayed skill as well as the grit and determination we are looking for in our forwards.”

“It was an overall skilled camp with a good group of players,” Henke said. “I enjoyed the drills we did in the practice and the whole hockey aspect of the camp exceeded my expectations. I felt comfortable the whole time at the camp with the hotels and the food that was provided for us. I’m honored to be selected to attend the main camp for the Huntsville Havoc and hope to establish my place with this organization.”

Wharton (5-7, 170) has spent the past two seasons with the Humboldt Broncos of the SJHL. He scored seven goals and recorded 12 assists in 82 games.

“We are excited to invite Chase to our main training camp.  He demonstrated the skill and qualities we are looking for in a Defenseman.  We look forward to having compete for a roster spot on opening night.”

“I felt that this weekend’s camp was a success, all aspects included,” Wharton said. “Huntsville and Iowa State put together a top notch camp that included some great hockey and showcased what the pro ranks and college level have to offer.  It’s always been an aspiration of mine to play pro hockey, so the invite back to main camp is an awesome feeling, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

The Havoc open the 2012-13 season on the road October 26 at Louisiana before opening home schedule on Breland Homes Ice on Saturday, November 10 against the Fayetteville FireAntz.
