Lutzenkirchen Named To Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
Auburn, Ala. - Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) today announced the 22 college football players from across the country named to the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, , a group that includes Auburn tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen.
One of the sport’s premier service honors, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® shines a spotlight on the positive, off-the-field impact that a select group of student-athletes has on their communities.
Lutzenkirchen, a senior from Marietta, Ga., has taken on visiting and supporting children with cancer as his personal mission, and has made an impact on several of them both near Auburn and in his hometown by visiting them and bringing teammates along, corresponding with them, and offering encouragement to siblings and family.
He is extremely active in service projects with Auburn student-athletes and has been asked by several colleges/departments at Auburn to visit with prospective students as an Auburn Ambassador. Philip helped start a Youth for Christ chapter at a local high school and works with his family in Marietta, Ga., on collection/donation projects for underprivileged youth throughout the year (Christmas, Easter, back to school, etc.). The Radio/Television/Film major is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and is scheduled to graduate in December 2012.
This summer, the Good Works program received 117 nominations from colleges and universities nationwide. From those, a prestigious voting panel comprised of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members and college football media selected two 11-member teams – one featuring players competing in the NCAA® Football Bowl Subdivision and the other a combined team representing the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA.
“As fans of college football, Allstate takes great pride in partnering with the AFCA to recognize these dedicated student-athletes for their accomplishments off the field,” said Kathy Mabe, president of Allstate’s West regions and a member of the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team voting panel. “These players have demonstrated the unique ability to balance academics with athletics while donating their limited free time and energy to serve others, and we at Allstate commend them for their commitment to volunteerism.”
