HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Columbia High School Senior Chris Schmitt and former Moontown Airport owner George Myers died Sunday in an airplane crash at Moontown Airport in Madison County.  Today, WHNT NEWS 19′s Carson Clark spoke Chris’s friends about his love of life and flying.

Chris particularly loved singing and flying.

“He loved singing, says James Kendrick, Chris’ choir director.  “He loved choir so much that at the beginning of this year, it didn’t fit in with his schedule, except for women’s choir.   And he said ‘Mr. Kendrick can I be in women’s choir?’   And I said yeah, we’ll accommodate that.”

Chris was also in the middle of appearing in a German reality TV series about Germans who have moved to the United States.   Chris was born there and moved to Alabama with his family.  His family owns a local German restaurant.
