HUNTSVILLE, AL (WHNT) — The deadline to donate memorabilia for the time capsule at the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial is rapidly approaching.

The last collection date will be September 22nd at Smith Store-It Storage Facilities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Artifacts donated should represent current military service and contributions of Madison County veterans. Suggested donation items include military medals, ribbons, letters, or photos that will show what military life was like in 2012.

Organizers say they want to leave a legacy that will be remembered through the memorabilia that is left in the time capsule.

“Our people in 50 years need to look and see what we were doing right now and what we have done in the past,” said organizer David Carney. “We need to tell our story, this time capsule gives each individual veteran a chance to say to the future, this is me.”

The time capsule will be buried during a special ceremony on November 17th at the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial in downtown Huntsville. It will be buried at the base of the Alabama flag, and re-opened in 2062.
