HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Traffic was backed up Thursday afternoon in the northbound lanes of North Memorial Parkway due to a bad wreck at the intersection of Winchester Road.

Police say two people died, and another person was critically hurt in a wreck involving a Ford Taurus and Nissan Sentra.  A fourth person was involved, but was not injured.

Police officials identified the two deceased victims as 74-year-old Samuel Pride, the driver of the Sentra, and 37-year-old John Certain, a passenger in the Taurus.  Avis Certain, 61, was driving the Taurus, and remains in critical condition at Huntsville Hospital.

Three vehicles were involved.  The accident happened just before 2:30 p.m.  Police say it appears that the Ford Taurus which was headed southbound lost control after being clipped in its rear by another car turning left onto Winchester Road. Eyewitnesses said the Taurus flipped over several times and eventually landed on top of the Nissan Sentra.
