Apple is expected to unveil its newest iPhone on Wednesday in San Francisco. Most technology insiders expect modest but noticeable changes to a device which has been an industry leader since its debut.

CNET.com staff writer Josh Lowensohn tells CBS News the expectation is that the latest iPhone will be “a lot like the old phone with a few slight changes” including a larger screen and 4G capabilities. That would be great news for customers seeking faster wireless connections and streaming abilities.

It’s also likely Apple will add a smaller dock and pin connector along with a faster processor to its standout smartphone.

“The [iPhone] 4S was really just a 4 with a couple of internal tweaks,” Lowensohn explained, “You couldn’t really tell the difference. This is a phone that you’re largely going to see from across the room – you’ll know it’s a newer device.”

It’s unlikely Apple will release an iPad mini at its event Wednesday – despite early rumors of that possibility. Most industry watchers now speculate a smaller, perhaps 7-inch display iPad tablet would be unveiled at a separate event before the holiday shopping season.
